Description | The smallmouth bass is generally brown with red eyes,and dark brown vertical bands, rather than a horizontal band along the side. The base of the soft dorsal and anal fins are covered in scales. When the mouth is closed it stretches to the middle of the eye socket. The colour of the fish is olive green with a bronze tinge. Dark olive green stripes are visible across the body. Small dark lines that run from the eye socket is a distinguishing feature. The belly is a greyish white. They are much browner in color than their bigmouth brothers. |

Habitat | They are usually found around submerged structure and especially around gravel beds and sandy bottoms in more open water, but your first choice should be to look for them in rocky areas and slightly more active water like streams and pools. They like submerged trees and trunks, which makes them more difficult to spot around these objects even in clear water. |
Fishing Strategy | A wide variety of artlure can be used. Crank baits, soft plastic, plastic frog etc. are all well received by this fish. |
