MEALIES FOR BANK ANGLING
Flavoured Mealies |
Ingredients |
1 Cup fully prepared mealies |
10 ml pharmacist alcohol (90% strength) |
10 ml colouring of your choice |
15 ml essence of your choice |
Method |
Throw the mealies in a bottle and add all the other ingredients. Add clean water until the corn are thoroughly covered and shake the container well until all the ingredients are mixed. |
Tip |
The absence of water and the replacement with a essence will prolong the life of the corn and strengthen the smell. |

Maroek Mealies |
Ingredients |
1 young soft green mealie |
2 Teaspoons sugar |
1 Teaspoon salt |
Bucket full of Maroek |
Method |
Cook the mealie in water with the added sugar and salt for 10 minutes. Put the cooked mealie in a bucket with maroek, the mealie must be properly covered with maroek. Let it stand overnight. Carefully remove the kernels from the cob and place in a container. The mealies do not have a long shelf life. |

Florescene Mealies |
Ingredients |
1 Cup prepared mealie kernels |
1 Teaspoons florescene powder (green or red) |
1 Teaspoon icing sugar |
30ml Moir's almond essence |
Method |
Place the mealie kernels in a tightly closed bottle. Add the almond essence and icing sugar together and stir in a separate bowl. Add the florescene powder with the mealies. Then add the almond mixture to the mealies until all the kernels are covered. Shake the bottle well. The mealies can be stored in your tackle box. |

Red Syrup Mealies |
Ingredients |
1 Cup prepared mealie kernels |
4 Tablespoons illovo syrup |
3 Tablespoons pharmacists syrup |
3 Tablespoons water |
20 Drops sweetex |
30ml Moir's red food colouring |
Method |
Place the mealies in a pot and add the water, syrup, red food colouring and sweetex. Cook slowly for 2 ½ hours while stirring frequently or until most of syrup is cooked away. |
Tips |
Mealies should be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator between fishing trips. |

Yellow Vanilla Mealies |
Ingredients |
1 Cup prepared mealie kernels |
100ml Vanilla essence |
1 Teaspoon egg yolk powder |
Method |
Mix the egg yolk powder and vanilla essence together. Add the mealie kernels in the liquid so that it is properly covered. Stir thoroughly and let it stand for a while before placing it in a container. |
